Annual Memorial Event

Each year our Chapter hosts a memorial event to remember the lives lost during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2011.  Part of our ceremony is the Placing of the Flags.  On Sept. 10, starting at about 11:30 p.m., volunteers, staff members, neighbors and friends gather at the Chapter and place 3041 flags in the campus grounds.  Each flag bears the name of one of the people killed on that fateful day.

The next morning, the flags stand as a reminder for all who pass our campus.  Each year, passers-by pull into our parking lot to pause and reflect.  The knowledge that each flag symbolizes a life lost is very powerful, and  many tears are shed here each year.

Our program begins at about 7:00 p.m., each September 11th.  Patriotic music, several readings, the Ringing of the 4 Five's in honor of the fallen firefighters and first responeders and a moment of silence are featured in the evening's short service.
